Rear Quarter Window

I didn't see much in the way of rear quarter window options for threads. I smashed my rear quarter window, and didn't want to spend $200.00 replacing it. I got a "smoked" 1/8" poly carbonate window cut for $50.00, and attached it to the truck..

I used Window Weld to seal it, and before you get excited it came loose 7 days later. I was curious if anyone else has done this already and what sealer you used? In reading online, it looks like Sikaflex 295UV is the right stuff to use.. any experience?

I plan to leak test the window before masking it, it's tacky looking to see the seal through the plastic but so useful..

PROBLEM: What happened was probably that when you were driving, air was finding its way inside of your window where that glue was. It was pushing the window away from the window frame and eventually tore the adhesive.

SOLUTION?: When you re-do it, wipe down the rim of the window frame with alcohol to clean the surface. Use your adhesive of choice to seal the window. Then go get rubber trim and outline the window after its been installed. This way under higher winds(faster speeds), air will not fight with your adhesive, it will deflect off of the rubber trim without stressing your window, keeping it safe.

Keep in mind your not using glass, your using polycarbonate. It is tougher than plexiglass but it carries traits that pose decreased life expectancy than standard glass. Polycarbonate will vibrate harder than glass, thus stressing your adhesion spots more. So if your on the highway with a front window down, i can almost bet your rear window would have been shaking.

good point! Yeah, it flexes a lot. It came loose from the rear edge which is where I had the largest gap. I think if i can get a seal to bond to the plastic, I will be fine.. reducing the airspace between window and metal is a good idea.
