Rear Sagging 2008 V8 4x4 LTD

Forgive me but I’ve used the search feature and read write ups until my head hurt and I’m still not sure what to do.

I bought this truck 3 years ago. The previous owner had pulled both the XREAS and RAS and swapped it for Bilsteins and FJ Springs.

I noticed a bit of sag anytime I put a lot of gear in the back. It wasn’t terrible but it was noticeable. I recently bought a 2500 lb Casita travel trailer and I’m not happy with the rear end. It sags too much and a noise comes from the rear until I hit the off button on the ride height. I’m assuming it’s trying to inflate the nonexistent air bags.

1) should I upgrade the entire suspension?
2) is there a modification I could do to the rear end shocks or springs?
3) can I add RAS with the current set up?

You might need new coils
I would invest and get a heavy duty coil I’m not really sure about the shocks I would say if you have shocks with 50,000 or more miles on them replace them.

Yea - would defintely start with rear springs - old man emu, dobinsons, toytech some options to start looking at

Sagging under load is a common issue with a 4 runner and the best fix is airbags. That way you don't have to sacrifice your suspension ride with stiffer springs. You can adjust your ride height according to the load you place in your truck and the trailer you are towing.

Agreed, airbags are the way for coil springs and changing load weights. My RAS system has been great both light offroading and towing.

Get an aftermarket airbag helper set and hook it up to the existing compressor, adjust the ride height sensor for whatever height you want to sit at and call it a day. It will automatically level your truck to whatever you want it to be regardless of trailer or load weight, I would just try to find some working pressures on the compressor and bags to make sure they are compatible but in theory it should be fine no matter what. I'm just guessing this would work, it's what I'm going to do at some point when I get mine lifted but still need to tow with it so I'm very confident of being able to make it work.

I was hesitant to put stiffer springs on since I only tow a fraction of the time. I think I’ll try the RAS route but I didn’t know if it could work the same after the previous owner pulled then XREAS.

I used airbags on my tundra for 10 years no compressor just use standard air pump to pump them up. Manual systems work forever with nothing to fail on you.. I might tow twice a year so nothing to worry bout in between times.
