Rear Seat Entertainment System - RSES Parts?

I would like to add a RSES for the little ones in the backseat. I currently have the non-nav JBL system with some kind of rear audio control. I just figured out I have the rear audio today and had to google what the small screen was on the dome light. Before I hunt down a used one, I have a few questions that I am hoping one of you can help me out with:

1. If I get a Toyota one, is it plug and play?
   
2. If it is plug and play, will any Toyota RSES fit around that age range?
   
3. Do I need any other parts?

I am at the beginning of researching this. Hoping one of you have already done this for me.

I have a the little screen/display on the dome light above the back seats but never figured out what it's purpose was. When I bought my 4runner used it came with 2 sets of head phones and a remote but the head phones were in rough shape and I tossed them. I have since upgraded my head unit.

I have it also and got the remote from another memeber but I think it needs a battery and then I have to figure out how to work it.

Mine didn't come with headphones or a remote. I didn't even know I had it until I took the dome light cover off to see if there was any pre-wiring for adding a DVD system.

I'm hoping that having the rear seat audio will make adding a DVD system (RSES) a little easier.
