Rear seat latch stuck

The little latch that you pull up on the rear seatback to fold it down is stuck in the "up" position so the seatback won't latch into place. Anyone run into this or have a fix?

I know they always stay up until the latch engages, I have to give mine a heavy slam to get it to lock down once it engages the loop latch, maybe trim the carpet and leather back, the carpet might be bunched up in that area aswell.

The latch on the seat back is jammed. Happened to mine as well. Put some WD-40 in there and manually close it with a screwdriver first. Then pop it open with the latch and your set.

Just went out and slammed it and it latched. I'll shoot some lock dry lube in the mechanism next time im messing with it.

Lol. My Corolla wagon takes but a gentle nudge to latch back up. Should have known it needed a proportionately larger nudge.

So, I have a 92 that's missing the know you'd pull up on to get the seat disengaged with the side so that the top half of seat can fall forward. The passenger side still has its know. I unscrewed it to try to see if it might grab the other portion, but it wouldn't. Not sure what happened to that piece, and the other knob. Is there a work around for this?

Try a set of vice grips. Clamp down on the knob real hard (might permanently ruin any remaining threads) and pull up. If that doesn't work you might have to try and unclip the back of the seat and see if you can replace the knob from the inside with another one. I haven't done that on a pre 96 so I'm not any help there.

This is what I did, if were talking about the same thing. I just took an old vape cartirdge container and wedged it in there. I was sick of bloody knuckles from trying to pry that stupid thing up.

I think that's the thing your missing.
If that's not the right color, search for "4runner seat knob" and there are other listing. Just don't buy the $4.99 one that someone is selling that's split and broken

You can get to the mechanism from the back of the seat if you pop the carpet panel off carefully as not to break the clips

The threaded rod is probably out of position and won't find the hole.

How do you pop off the carpet from the back of the seat? It looks like the carpet slides in from the middle of the seat. The carpet part is female "U" shape receptor and the clip has a male cap.

You can pop it straight out... but before you do, get the right tool that can go on each side of the clip and pull it out without damaging the carpet backing. A kit like this will help:

Went to an upolsterer and he show me how it's done. He had a tool just like the first above. He put the "fork" under the head of the plastic rivet and pryed it up.

As for the stuck unlock, I had to unclip 6 split rings that hold the fabric in place. Unbolted the lock mechanism and slid it out. Apparently the push knob came lose and pushed the unlock arm to far. Cleaned up a little bit of debris, screwed the knob back on and bolted the lock back on. It's working like it should.
