Hey guys. I've been doing my lift for the past 2 days and im finally onto the rear shocks. I've been trying to get that top bolt off for a while now but it seems like its got way too much rust on it. Every post ive said says to just sawzall it off. I have a sawzall but I see NO way to get that thing angled up to cut through that thing. Anyone have any idea how I can get these things off??

Thanks alot

A easier way is to just keep bending the shock body back and forth until the top post breaks off. Or you just get the saw blade between the shock body and top mounting plate and cut there. Good luck

Another option is to drill a hole through the top metal sleeve, stick a long screw driver in there and then twist.

I know when I did mine, I was cursing up a storm at that thing. If you wiggle the crap out of the shock it will eventually snap off. I did that and used the sawzall through the top rubber bumper to get it started. Smoked like mad and the only metal blade I had was dull as hell and only got half way through.
The dumbass that designed that should be shot. There was no reason to make that the way they did.

Haha i know what you mean. I'm sure my neighbors have heard me multiple times screaming **** YOU SHOCK and WHAT THE HELL IS THIS BULLSHIT!?!?! But alright i'll just keep trying.

Thanks for the help guys

I have done this on a few 4runners. I put a wrench on the top bolt and wedge it against body. Then take some huge pliers and grip the entire shock body. The just twist till the bolt breaks loose or it snaps. One time I punctured the shock with a large screwdriver and used that to twist the stock.

This worked like a charm for me. And I had a SawzAll plugged in and ready to go.

I have tried the sawzall method, I could never get the blade in the correct spot, just created lots of sparks. Also have heard of people cutting through the shock and puncturing the chamber and makes a fun mess.

I second the screwdriver thing.. worked well for me (and some elbow grease and lots of f-bombs)

Did ya succeed? One of mine busted clean off. The other...well it's off of there. Shock juice is lovely stuff -

i've helped out a few guys lift and done it myself... bend it back and forth like you would a paperclip to break it... 30-50 seconds max.
