Rear spoiler removal

If you are not on a limited time constraint, order the vehicle you want with the options you want. You can special order almost any combination. Remember this is the vehicle you will be keeping for a long time (you hope), so unless you have to, don't settle for anything less that what you want.

I got the call that mine came in today. It is a fleet vehicle so I had no options. It doesn't have a roof rack or spoiler, it looks really naked. Is it possible to mount the OEM spoiler to a hatch that doesn't come with one? I see that the light on is on the hatch, but that could be disabled.

It'll be pretty hard to get the OEM spoiler. IIRC it's over $600 from the dealer for the OEM spoiler. Spoiler Depot has one that's similar to the 2003-04 spoilers without the hump. The biggest difference is the third brake light, the OEM has it on the front face, whereas the Spoiler Depot version is mounted on the underside.

The rear clearing effect of the hump spoiler is most evident when your running on the highway in the rain. The water is actively pushed down by the airflow. I hardly have to use my rear wiper in the rain, no lie. I occasionally use the rear wiper just to make sure the damn thing still works since it is dormant most of the time. Aesthetically, the spoiler also adds beef to the rear too.

Well, for what it's worth, it's your money and truck. If you want it a certain way then by all means go Burger King on it and buy it your way. You will have this vehicle for a while and like any major purchase you should be satisfied from day one. Now the HOWEVER part...
However, if you are still undecided I would go to the dealer and STARE at a runner with a spoiler and one without (assuming they even have one without). Staring at internet pictures don't do the real article justice after all. Go and touch the actual spoiler, bang on it, yank on it (before they possibly kick you off the lot). I have to say that the newer spoiler makes the rear end look more complete. It also has a LED array brake light. Furthermore, let's say you bought a spoiler-less runner and then decided later you do want one. You will have to look for one, a reputable and competent shop, and consequently disconnect the existing brake light on the hatch door. May be cheaper and easier just to get one from the get go. However, if your set on not having one, nothing wrong with that either. It's all about your happy factor that matters.

Wow....that looks like a great deal. I found a reputable place in town that will install one (looks very similar to spoiler depot...which I kind of like!) painted and finished for $300.00. That also sounds like a really good deal! :bigok:thebionicman said:
