Rear Spring reccomendations and user experience

I am having a difficult time deciding on rear springs. I currently have 5100 all around and the toytec coilovers in front (so I can adjust to look right with new rear springs). Today, i am running stock rears with daystar 1.5 spacer. On a recent trip loaded up had to much sag and I would guess I lost over an inch of clearance. This was an offroad trip and did cause departure angle change. However, here is my question. This is my daily, so no "constant" weight increase and don't plan on rear bumper, but often put 2-400 lbs of gear for camping etc... the current setup with load is not good. Looking for first hand user experience with superflex coils with camping type load (fridge included) and sag or OME 895's.

The general wisdom here is Superflex for comfort and OME for towing/load. Many have said the 895 is truckish and borderline harsh empty and comes in nicely with a few hundred pounds over the rear axle.

Good input. Thank you! I have searched a bit and didn't see that.

I think the superflex ones lift the 4runner 3.75" though with no load and 3.25 with 400 lbs load. Found one site that said 2" but I think that's when they are installed on the FJ.

I've had the OME 895E rear coils installed for a couple of weeks now. The 895E are simply a 1/2 inch shorter version of the 895 but with the same spring rate/stiffness. When I first picked up the truck it felt slightly bouncy but not harsh. I emphasize "slightly bouncy," not very bouncy. After a couple hundred miles it feels firm but not harsh and no longer bouncy. I consider harsh to be an unloaded ford f250 pickup if you've ever driven one. I would think that for a 40% increase over stock weight carrying capacity they would have been much firmer but they feel great in my opinion. Mind you, the owner of Slee offroad who guided me toward OME suspension said that harshness is mostly determined by the shock you pair with the coil. I have OME coils and OME shocks all around. Perhaps a Bilstein 5100 shock with an OME coil may ride differently than and OME shock with OME coil. I have seen several members around here who have paired bilsteins with ome coils but I dont remember what they said the ride was like. Good Luck!

I like my Sway-Away 1.5 rear coils. Nice lift with comfortable ride. It's comparable to the OME 895E coils, but not quite as "harsh".

Have you considered air bags? I don't know what type of wheeling you do but they could give you back your clearance at the cost of articulation.

I have superflex and have loaded the back of my truck up all the way plus a hitch cargo carrier loaded with about 100 or so pounds. Very little sag, 1/2 - 1 inch maybe. As far as everyday driving they are pretty nice, definitely much firmer than stock but not harsh.

Hadn't considered these, but did look at the 895e's. I really like the stance of my truck now and think I would like to keep it the same with a 1.5 rear coil. Have you ever loaded these up? how did the handle the weight? To me it looks like these would be really similar to the superflex just a half inch less height (considering they are both made by eibach). Thanks

i ran the superflex HD's coils originally and they lifted my rear empty over 3 inches. with 200 or so pounds it lowered it to the spec 2.75 inches of lift. they rode very well and i liked the extra height. i now run the Metaltech LT rear springs, i prefer these significantly. they ride very well and are dual rate coils, plus if you ever decide to do longer travel shocks you don't have to worry about the springs. but even with the 8 or 9 inch travel bilsteins i would highly recommend them.superior ride to my superflexes even the standard ones my buddy has in his. oh and these lift the rear pretty much exactly 2 inches from stock.

I have the icon 2" rears. The ride is good and they load pretty well. For the money I would probably go with metaltech 2" springs as cruzado said. I may be switching to them sometime in the near future.

I have not loaded them up yet. I usually keep between 125-150 pounds of stuff in the rear but nothing really substancial yet. I can't recall the exact numbers, but I remember the OME 895E's are rated for more load capacity than the Sway-Away's. l originally wanted superflexes, but not 2" of lift; so like you said, the eibachs and sway always are basically the same, just a half an inch of "listed" difference.

Does the 2" actually give you 2" of lift as advertised ?

Yes, but you will have to put a 1.5" spacer on the driver side or your truck will sag to the left all the time.

I just did the install with the OME and noticed right away that the truck leans to one side.

it actually gave me a little more

in the 3 years I've had it lifted, 2 with icon coils, i have never had driver side lean. not even a little bit

metaltech LT rear springs, 2" and ride far better than my old ToyTec springs.

I wouldnt want any other spring.

I have not had this issue at all.
My rear sits perfectly level with NO spacer on the driver's side with the icon 2" coils.

I don't know how that is possible since Toyota installed asymmetrical coils from the factory and the icon coils are not asymmetrical. Did you measure it?

I've got Superflexes (non-HD) and 5100's in the rear and they gave me 2.5" lift over stock. They're great with no load, a little spongy with a cargo drawer and full camping load in the trunk. No spacers and driver and passenger side measure same height to body.
