Rear storage comportment question.

I have a 97. And the rear storage is small compared to newer 4runners. I was wondering from what year did they make it into the bigger storage comportment? Did any of them come in the darkish brown color ?

Has anyone modified their old small comportment into the big one. As in cut the trim out and trim the metal ?

Reason for this is it seems so much easier to make a fiberglass subwoofer box on the bigger storage comportment vs my 97. More volume to.

Yea. I don't recall ever seeing one with brown interior and the large storage box.

I just had my friend pick me up tan ones. Just like the ones [MENTION=136757]soupkitchen[/MENTION] has. Maybe they won't look so bad

These are the only colors for that panel listed in '99 (my year).

64730-35010-B0 MOON MIST, TRIM1*
64730-35010-E0 MD.OAK, TRIM4*

Well I looked at your interior swap. And your door panels are different color then the panels in the rear ... Well it seems that way through the pics. Correct me if I'm wrong ?

Exactly what did you swap. Did you swap every single trim piece or only door panels, and rear panels ? And did not swap the panels that are in between the doors where the seat belts are.

Is it true that the lighter color is everything that is brown in older and everything that is lighter is brown in other words other way around ?

everything expect the rear panel on the hatch(which i didnt photo) and the panels between the rear and front seat that cover the front belts.

door panels and all others are from the 02 truck.
 
the newer door panels are leather where my old ones had fabric. The outer portions are darker brown and the leather inserts are tan and match the rear panels...I think the only other difference is the newer truck had darker carpet too....I did not swap carpet out.

I don't mean to be annoying. Could you take more photos of your interior to see how it looks compared to mine.

My buddy just brought me those rear plastic panels , the one side has the large comportment. And the color of it looks like yours.

He said the rest of the truck has the same brown/tan color. But where it's brown it's tan and were its tan it's brown. I'd like to see the door panels. Of yours and around the seat belts. Like between the doors.

all the panels i have laid out on the garage floor are what went in. You can see them pretty clearly, I hadn't cleaned them yet but you can tell what they look like. I'll try to get some pics in a little bit.

Little hard to tell exactly what color.

Are they like this

Minus the center not being leather
 
If I recall, the leather interiors are a different color scheme than the cloth. I almost bought a 2000 with leather and it looked different than my tan colored interior.

Here's what I did to enlarge my storage compartment (it's all open space in there!):

It's a long post scroll and it's near the bottom. When you have the rear panel just cut off the old black box and use 3M spray adhesive and some black or grey bulk carpet. It's not hard at all. I've pretty much tripled the storage space in there now! I have tie downs, two sets of rope, 3 atlases, a first aid kit, wheel spacers and glow lights all stashed in there. Just don't read too much of that thread or you'll want to install a new sound system too :)
