Rear tire carrier

So I drive a 1997 SR5 4 Runner, ive always liked the look of rear tire carriers like on jeeps and 2nd gen 4 runners. So is there anyone on here that can post up some pictures of a custom tire carrier theyve built for their 3rd gen or give me some helpful hints on where to start off on building my own.

You can build one off of the rear receiver hitch, other than that its gonna be an aftermarket bumper with a swing out carrier added on either by you or the company.

fightman80, thats a sweet setup! Only one thing I don't like about yours is the angle of the tire itself, but still a sweet setup! I'll be doing a spare tire rack for my rig since I've done the dual exhaust setup. I got a few ideas on building a T bracket to tilt the spare so it doesn't hit the exhaust under the vehicle but I've always wanted a carrier on the rear.

thanks guys i thought about the custom bumper but i cant seem to find like a off road steel bumper for my runner, id love to find one and add a carrier to it, maybe get a lil more ground clearance

Here is a link to my bumper build:

As far as nice looking rear bumpers that you can order with a tire carrier. CBI off road is lead IMO and then the irbisofroad bumper. I bought the tire carrier kit that had the hinge, latch, bumpstop, and multi lug pattern plate from EMS Offroad and made mine.

Bumping an old thread but the other day I was looking at my buddies bronco II and was wondering if anyone has ever tried to use a tire carrier from one? I think it could probably work and not too hard to find.

I'm sure you could get many different tire carriers to "fit" onto the side of the 4runner, but the major part is reinforcing the sheet metal to carry a load like that. Our American 4runners were never designed for that kind of weight.
