Rear View Mirror Obstructing Forward View

After driving the 4runner for awhile I realise that at 6'1 I don't really fit. The proportions are optimized for smaller people. One of the freaking annoying things is that no matter where I place the rear view mirror it's always in my way. My main forward field of view is between the drivers pillar and the rear view mirror. I'm constantly having to slouch in my seat which is uncomfortable or bob my head around to see underneath the mirror.

Here is another driver that feels my pain.

Are any of you dealing with the same problem? I'm nearly to the point where I want to remove the rear view mirror entirely. The large side mirrors provide plenty of rear and side visibility that almost makes the rear mirror not necessary.

is the mirror all the way up as far as it will go touching the headliner? every truck i have i move them as far up as i can

Why don't you remove it or fold it up flat (as possible)? When I take long trips, the back is usually so full I can't use my inside mirror, so I just use the outside mirrors. Same when I'm driving a box van. There's an inside mirror, but it can't see through the box. :jump:

Easy:

Finally got a chance to look at my seat. I ended up solving my issue very easily. I took the front two seat bolts out, loosened the rears and found 6 washers. 3 on each side and then tightened everything down. This moved my seat a noticeable difference upward on my thighs and leaned it back some more. This also still left me with good amount of threads to still anchor the seat into the floor. I was even able to move the back of the seat forward once this was done. All in all, its minor but so far it seems to fix my height issue. I went from looking out the top of the windshield to looking more out the center, which is a big help on my neck.

If you didnt know any different you cant even tell.

Advanced:

FINALLY got time to hit the shop and lower my seat. What a difference! I feel like im so much lower. I see out of the middle of the windshield, not the roof, i no longer hit my head/hair, can close the sunroof and NOT hit it. Im so happy i was able to do this and i took plenty of pics for everyone.

Hit it with a hammer to flatten it out, can also see our second cuts on the outer most bend on the closer bracket. Farther bracket is flattened as well.

Test fit to make sure thats enough

left is original, right is the one we cut and bent (huge difference)

Little welding to sturdy the brackets and make it right, also welded the top cuts after picture.

Bore out the mount holes a little and tape up the side panel to trim. Used washers on the seat bolts to cover the bigger bore.

I taped and then cut the side panel with the dremel and a disk.

Closer look at the bracket now

Installed, you can see where i cut a little too much off. I also sanded down the burs/edges from the dremel cut. The picture makes the edge looks a lot more noticeable.

Thanks jfry008 and danronian for the excellent suggestions. I'm going to have to try both of those. :thumb3:

I was also contemplating the possibility somehow cutting the seat cushion lower within the seat. There is about an inch of extra head space that could be gained.
