Rear Window Issue

Hey Guys, I've got a bit of an issue with the rear window on my 97 runner. I did a search and couldn't find someone describing the same problem. When I purchased the vehicle in the winter I was told the rear switch was disconnected which I was ok with and just left the window alone.
Considering the lovely weather and the amount of driving I was doing this past long weekend I was tempted to put the window down. All weekend the window went up and down no problem using the key in the hatch. When I got home last night and went to put it up the window did not come to a complete seal along the top of the trim. I tried numerous times up and down and managed to close the gap for the most part but it still is not sitting correctly. There is a small gap on the top right corner and it looks as though the corner or the window is pressed inward towards the interior.

Anyone have any insight here before I start to rip it apart and try to fix this? Never had a vehicle with power windows so this is all new to me.

I have similar issues with mine. It sits uneven and won't go down now. I'm thinking about replacing the motor for it

If I'm not mistaken, most of the windows have a limit switch which shuts down the window motor when it feels sufficient resistance. In other words, most windows hit a stop at which point the motor turns off. There should be physical stops in the hatch that will need to be adjusted. You would have to take off the paneling and locate the stops, adjust them and reassemble. I'll try to see if anything in the FSM shows this. I don't think the motor would be your problem.

Found it. From the looks of it you will either have to adjust the window rail, window regulator, or - if they exist - the window stops:

sn0wrunner, it sounds like your window regulator or motor may be at fault. Your window could have gotten off track, then got stuck. If it's stuck, you may not hear the motor try to move it. Worth it to open it up, adjust, and see if it begins to work.

I figured that it was off the track and helped guide it back into place just to get it up. I didn't want to play with it much because it looked like rain was on the way. Thanks for posting up the schematic. I'm going to rip into it this week and see if anything looks out of place.

Don't forget to put back the plastic seal strip that goes against the bottom of the window. It feels like felt and doesn't look to be very necessary. If you don't put it back your window will rattle while driving and be annoying.
