Rear window operation

I have a '91 4Runner, and the rear window will only roll up using the key. I have to jump inside to roll it down. I don't think this is normal, is it?
If not, has anyone ever fixed this problem? I don't have too much experience working on locks and such. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Might roll the window down and take off the inner tailgate panel. Check for corrosion around the connectors and especially around where the wires are grounded . This is a pretty common problem with 2nd gens.

On my 2nd gen the rear window only works on the key, nothing some the switch on the console. Any ideas? do these switches die often?

when i got my 1st gen my rear window switch didn't work either. i pulled it out and opened it up and found it full of dirt and junk, cleaned it out really good put switch back together and back in and it works great now. i'ts worth a shot

by the way it was the same problem only could roll up not down.

I've had the same problem with my 95 - if you periodically spray down all moving parts on the regulator with WD-40 it will keep it functioning. White Lithium grease can also work.
