Rear window problems

Hi. I recently purchased a used 2008 SR5 V6, and the power rear window doesn't want to work from inside the truck.

It works fine with the key from the rear of the vehicle, but no luck with the switch on the dash. This was a sporadic problem for a few days, but now seems permanent. The hatch is closed tight, that doesn't seem to be the problem. Even if I open it from outside, I can't close it from inside.

I would try the reset procedure suggested in the manual, but that requires the switch to work in the first place. I just wanted to know if I was missing something obvious before making an appointment with the dealer.

Those switches are really weak. When I took my dash apart to work on the radio I attempted to unplug my switch and the switch came apart in pieces. I managed to find them all and reassembled it and used some epoxy to keep it together. It works fine now. Yeah, take it back to the dealer post haste!

Check if the window lock out switch is activated on the driver's door. That switch locks out the hatch window switch as well.

+1... happened to me.

same goes with the rear defrost if the window is cracked open.

Well, that's embarrassing. Yep, it was the window lock button on the door.

My five year old likes to play with the window in the back seat, and now that it's below freezing, Dad exercises his "driver's seat" authority and shuts off the window.

Thanks for the help. Saves me a trip to the dealer. If I'm red-faced on here, I would have really felt moronic leaving my truck in for this problem...

Glad to see you sorted that out. But hey, better to be red faced here with your 4runner brethren than at the stealer right? It's all good, that's what we're all here for. If it makes you feel any better, my daughter also likes playing with all the switches, buttons, and even likes swinging from the rear overhead assist handles. The truck is her personal jungle gym. Then when I start it up the wipers turn on, the lights flash, etc.

LOL, thats funny. But you know what? I didn't know the lockout switch on the drivers door also worked with the rear window, so I too learned something new today. : )

Same thing happened to me... I was cursing the damn truck for hours before the "duh" moment when I discovered the window lock was on!
