Does anyone have a link or tried this mod? I'd like to be able to use the remote to close the rear window and not just open it. It helps being able to toss things inside when in tight spaces.

It sounds like the design of the remote. I don't think I'm looking for a swap on security. A swap on the remote itself possible? Just ordered a extra one, so I'm not familiar with the programming side of it yet. Anyone know how to reprogram just the rear window button on the remote? Maybe something like 1 for down and 2 for up?!?!
I just discovered this today myself...but I've only had my truck for 1.5 days so far...lol
It doesn't seem like something that could be done with factory parts, I agree. If you find a way, then indeed share the wealth. The fact that the icon on the key fob only shows "down", and considering safety factors (a kid accidently being in the window when you hit "up" while you weren't looking), I imagine it was never Toyota's intention to allow remote-up.
After I discovered that I could roll it back up with the key, it didn't seem as annoying.

It's sad we have these "features" (or the lack of) because we live in a lawsuit happy society. For the same reasons, the factory nav is locked out once the vehicle is moving.

You know how to overcome the factory lockout right? If you have one of the older disks (5.1 or earlier) you can use the menu/volume/upper right corner/lower right corner/upper right corner/lower right corner/override/back buttons.
Then you are good to go. You have to do this every time you restart the 4R but since I don't always carry passengers it doesn't bother me. If you have a 6.1 disk, you can create a disk with the 5.1 firmware and the 6.1 maps and have the ability to override. I don

run 3 wires to the hatch from the front, and locate a ground trigger from the alarm arm status, and wire it to the key hole, and figure that makes it go up and wat make it go down, its a circuit that has to b completed by the key to make it up and down, i think it needs a pulse timer to be wired to the alarm status out and then itll auto up the window, im thinking about doin this since i down want to get that dei module.

I have no need for this mod myself however I think this should be an easy mod if you don't mind to install a weather proof momentary switch on the hatch or add an extra 1 channel remote.
There is two switch, One is on the dash(at least my have one and I assume the same for your) and the other one inside the hatch that can be operate via the key. So all you need to do is add an extra by pass switch there.
I would just add a diminutive momentary by pass switch if I was you but a 1 channel switch should only cost you around $29.99. Those remote are easily hack but since you only by pass the up function it wouldn't do a theft any good.

Reading what everyone has posted; resurfaced similar mods I've done on my old Lexus IS300 (fog light mod is the pretty much the same thing; except that the one pin on the relay is bent and wired to the ignition "on" position). There was also an add-on module for the windows that allowed the window up/down via the factory remote (of course it also required splicing here and there).
I'm thinking it's possible to incorporate this mod... but I'm still searching for the correct post since it's been so long since keeping up with it. I'll definitely post my findings for the members.

I would like to make that mod too(rear window up with remote) and IMHO, all what it takes is just proper software in laptop to make changes in the program. I believe that dealer can do it easy. If somebody has friends with access to dealer's software for this programing you need to give it a try. Please, let us know.
Hey guys, I'll post pictures later, but I was able to put a switch inside the rear hatch that rolls the window up. I ripped out everything behind the front seats and built a bed to sleep on during camping. I've always been able to push the key fob window button to roll it down from inside, but it's always pissed me off that I had to get out to turn the key or hop in the front to roll it up. Solution: Got into the rear door and tapped the 2 green wires coming from the key lock. Run wires down long enough that when the window rolls down, they won't be pulled out. Drilled a hole in the inside cabin door housing, installed the switch and it works perfectly. Now when I'm laying in the back, I can roll the window down and up from inside.

Curious to know more about this! I am assuming you have to hold the switch in one direction for the window to move? I was thinking about trying to get a switch that functions the same as the one up front on one of the rear side panels inside. That way I can hopefully use the auto function like a garage door button, it practically is my garage anyway.
