Rear window washer fluid

Why not use water?

Grows mold. Smells like ass, can get plugged up.

Water also freezes at 32F.

Ok boys and girls, you ready for a stupid newbie question? here goes, I bought my 4Runner on 11/6 yesterday I couldn't get my rear window washer to spray, though I could hear the pump and my front was fine, I called and made a service appointment for tomorrow. Today I find my front isn't working either so I figure maybe it's just out... I refill it and sure enough now both front and back work fine...duh.

so here's the question, does my 2017 $40,000.00 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road not have a F*****K low washer fluid light warning or some other indicator? every other car I have ever owned in my memory has had such an indicator, or alternatively is the indicator not functioning properly?

I've owned a lot of cars in my 66 years and not one of them had a washer fluid level indicator light.

I was a bit confused the first time I opened the hood after dark....40k, no damn light for the engine bay??

The 92 Silverado I used to have came with a detachable engine bay light on a wheel with a little handle to wind it back in after you use it.

I stole one of those lights from a Suburban that was being scrapped and put it in my '05 Jeep. Great light and I wish I remembered to take it when I got the Runner.

I've owned a lot of cars in my 66 years and not one of them had a washer fluid level indicator light.

My older Jeeps always did, but it was annoying because if it's not 90%+ full, as soon as you get off camber or on an incline the light starts going on and off with the movement of the vehicle. I used to just disconnect the sensor. I can check my own wiper fluid just like I can check my own tires and oil.

58 years here, and I concur. I have the feeling that us "older" folk are quite content with fewer bells & whistles on our vehicles.

I was pleasantly SHOCKED to discover Toyota had included a yellow dipstick in the washer fluid reservoir. They could haved saved a couple of pennies, but because of their thoughtfullness I can easily check the fluid level while I have the hood open cleaning out the leaves and pine tags and checking the oil.

Most of my older cars had a reservoir that would let you see the level at a glance, but yeah, you still had to get out of the car and open the hood and bend over.

You paid for dependability and capability.
My 2021 pro doesn’t have a warning light, automatic Rear door, blind spot monitor, and the transmission just loves switching down to fourth great on the slightest of inclines. But I’ve hurry s lot of rubicon owner’s feelings when I go everywhere they go on much more comfy vehicle and is not a Chrysler.
Yes most Chevies from the 90’s have more options but they aren’t still on the road while the 90’s 4Runners are mostly still running strong on just oil changes.

I'm one of those older guys and agree. Don't younger guys visually check fluid levels anymore? They just wait for a warning light to glow? )
