Rear window / wiper problem *unlike any common issues*

So before anyone asks, I have done my research and reset the ECU, made sure my window was all the way up, etc...


My rear window works just fine.... until:

I try to use my wiper or wiper fluid... the rear wiper will make 1 small sweep (about 1/3 the size of a normal sweep) and return to seated position and wont move after that (no matter what speed the rear wiper setting is on) (my wiper fluid still sprays when I need no problem)

After I do this with the rear wiper the rear window wont work until I pull the neg battery terminal and reset everything.

Clarification: If you use the wiper w/out the fluid, does it still not work? or does it break whenever the wiper is used; regardless of using the fluid or not?

it breaks whenever the wiper is used regardless of fluid being used.

I just thought it would help to say that the wiper fluid still works (even though the wiper isnt working

How old is your battery? I think that I remember others having odd things happen to their rear wiper right before the battery crapped out.

If it won't work at all, it's likely just because the window unit hasn't re-learned it's full open and full closed positions since the battery was last unplugged. Try making the rear window going all the way down then releasing the down button and pushing it in for another 5 seconds. Then move the window all the way up, release the button then hit it again for another 5 seconds.

Most of the time that will get the wiper working again, but it sounds like the OP has a different problem.

My 07 SR5 (53,000 mi) rear wiper started erratically giving a few swipes while starting w/o me activating the wiper last year. It was the original white Panasonic Battery from Japan. I found info here on the rear wiper getting erratic when the battery is bad. I had the battery tested at two shops and it showed to be bad. The truck never showed any slow cranking but I knew the years of service were extended. I had the battery replaced and the rear wiper has never been erratic since. This action is not documented vs owners observations.

How old is your battery? If its old, that could be the problem.

I'll check the battery age tomorrow, I recently bought the truck and have no idea when the last time the battery was replaced. I know it's from Wal Mart though so if it's it's anything like typical Wal Mart brand stuff, it's probably crap. :boink:

battery checked out fine.... date on it is 10/15 so it's only a couple months old.

took it out and had it tested at Auto Zone and it checked out fine.... :dunno:

Having a similar problem. Now I've got some things to try one I get mine back together.
