Rear Window Wiper

My rear window wiper doesn't press against the window very well anymore. The blade only lightly sweeps about a third of the glass it should. It seems the wiper is spring loaded and it doesn't press the wiper blade very well to the widow anymore. Does anyone know how to fix my rear wiper?

Not sure how to fix it, I replaced mine about a year ago and it started leaving streaks again recently.

This is an easy fix. Take the wiper arm off the back door. The plastic cover pops off. Use care when removing. Then use a 10mm wrench to loosen the bolt. Careful not to use too much torque as you can damage the drive motor. Now use WD40 to work the joint. Takes about 15 minutes or so, but the joint will eventually loosen up and work like new again. Once loosened up re-install. I would recommend a little anti-seize on the threads before reassembly.

Thanks. I was hoping it was something easy I could fix or replace myself. I'll try that. I might use marine grease where it's binding if that's a possibility.

I wasn't able to remove the blade. It would not come off the bolt after removing the nut. I did fix it though by spraying the pivoting joint with spray silicon a few times, trying to wash the joint with a toothbrush both with liberal silicon spray and auto detergent and water. I worked the joint by shutting the truck off with the rear wiper running, stranding the wiper on the rear window, which gave me more throw and then repeatedly lifting the wiper away from the window as far as it would go and releasing it so it would snap forward to the window. It works like new again!

I could not get the wiper stranded in front of the window with the window down. There is an electronic interface that will close the window before operating the wiper or retract the wiper before opening the window. Frustrating but rather impressive.
