rear window won't work

My rear window isn't working in my 1st gen 4runner, I have downloaded a manual but can't get my head around it, can anyone help me with what to look for or common problems etc?

make sure the tailgate is shut all the way, on both sides.
theres a safety switch in each latch.
also make sure all the bolts for the fiberglass top are in place.
i think its the 2nd or 3rd bolt from the rear, on the drivers side, hits another safety switch.

if that all checks out, check the fuses. then break out the DVM and check for power at the motor.


and, when did the problem start?

I bought it a few months ago as a project, it needed a bit of work and this hasn't worked since I got it, I checked all fuses first will have a look at the safety swithes, thanks for your help!

my tailgate stopped working one day, so out of frustration i hit the number plate with my fist and it started working again!?! every now and then it plays up again and i find a solid hit to the plate or just above it seems to do the trick. wierd but true. also check the wiper is sitting in its cradle properly
