Rear Window

When I bought my '90 the rear window was slow going up. Last time I used it I had to push a little, then run the motor, then push some more. The window gasket looks like it is long gone and water has been running inside the tailgate forever.

So what is the easiest fix? Search junkyards for a whole new tailgate? Or rip the inside of the gate off and try to lube everything up and get it working again. The motor appears to be working, but not strong enough to move the window.

Spring is finally here in N. Minnesota.

I had that problem on my '92 and did the lube thing. It helped quite a bit.

Getting to the assembly is a trick, though, 'cuz the open window covers the parts that need lubing. You can fool the tailgate to think it's closed by tripping the latches at each end of the gate. Then, with the gate laying open, operate the window so it extends onto a support (be careful here). This will expose just about all of the mechanism that needs lube.

When finished, close the window and operate the tailgate handle. This will release the latches.

Good luck. Hope this fixes the problem for you.

4 runner rear window - replacement motor

I have a 92 with the same problem - I took apart the rear tailgate, cleaned out everything with a wire brush and greased all the channels and rollers. I still can't get the window to go up and down and I'm pretty sure the motor for the pivot arms has gone bad. ( probably the brushes or something). I'm trying to hunt down replacement motors - anybody had luck finding a source online or otherwise?
