Rear Windshield Wiper

After searching and going by memory, lot's of threads of folks who do not like the Rear Windshield Wiper due to the fact it only travels across approx. 2/3 of the rear window. I concur. But what I have not found, nor remember, is anybody taking one apart and finding out why? Has anybody done so yet? And if so, can there be a mod to change it? Thanks in advance fory your insights. Be safe.

I thought my 4Runner rear windshield wiper was jammed or possibly broken until I read this. I just got back from Colorado with a bunch of sand on the ground that muddied up the vehicle after a major snow storm and really needed that rear windshield wiper. It was ok with 2/3rds of the way, but why they made it only going 2/3rd of the way is a tad mind boggling.

Regarding the rear wiper and maybe it was just an isolated issue with mine but I noticed sometimes if you have the wiper on and turn it off normally it will go almost all the way up and pause, then a final motion to rise up into the spoiler.

Sometimes it will go almost all the way up and pause, and just stay there without the final motion to go up into the spoiler lol.

"When the rear window wiper and washer switch is turned off
The rear wiper will stop operation, and return to the retracted position after
approximately 3 seconds.
However, if the engine switch is turned to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position
(vehicles without a smart key system) or the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off (vehicles with a smart key system)
while the rear wiper is operating, the rear wiper will stop at that position
and will not return to the retracted position."

It wouldn't retract after the 3 second pause while I was driving sometimes. :gossip:

just be thankful the blade actually touches the window at all. I just installed a new wiper arm and blade on mine thinking the spring was warn out. nope, it only wipes about a 3" section across the window.

I didn't want to exxagerate ...

Dammit, how're you guys making that degree symbol?

If on a Windows machine hold down the Alt key and type 0176 on the keypad, not the top row numbers. Or you can go to All Programs/Accessories/System Tools from the start menu and click on Character Map. Then click on the degree symbol, click Select, click Copy, and paste it into your post. If you look at the bottom right of the Character Map it will show you the keystroke for the selected symbol.
