Rear Wiper and Ignition

Having a funny little problem with my 4-Runner. When I turn the key to start the car, the rear wiper gives one swipe across the window then returns to the "off" position. The rear wiper is turned off as well on the stalk. I am thinking it is to remind the owner to do something or perform some kind of maintenance?

It could be that the wiper isnt returning to the home position so when you start the car it tries to finish the cycle.

Usually it seems this is caused by a dying battery, don't ask me why I have no clue... its just a quirk that Toyota either programmed or just happens.
 
Rear windshield wiper and battery

My 2006 V8 4Runner began to have problems starting and my rear windshield wiper would turn on once by itself. I read these previous posts and went to have my
1 1/2 year old battery checked. It surprisingly needed to be replaced and the minute I installed the new one, my car started right away without hesitating, and the wiper did not move again!
 
Really hoping posting this on a dead thread will find its way to someone. Having a similar issue in my 2006 SR5 4Runner except mine happens when I turn my truck OFF. Also I can hear a repeated clicking coming from the fuse area under the steering wheel. Another thing I noticed, sometimes while this is happening my key fob wont work and the air will be blowing even though the car is off. Very confused, if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.
 
I guess now that I think of it, the last time this happened was right before I replaced my battery the last time (6 months ago) but it only happened once so I didn't put the two together... I'll test it when I get off work, thanks for the replies! :cheers:
 
I figured I would post an update just to keep anyone interested up to date. I got my battery tested and it seemed that nothing was wrong with the battery. After looking around the internet at some other people's problems I think I figured out that whoever installed the previous owner's aftermarket radio/DVD receiver most likely did not do it correctly or theres possibly a short somewhere. I unhooked the battery for about 45 minutes (I know I only needed to do it for 15 but I got distracted) and when I hooked it back up everything went back to normal. The clock no longer stays on when I turn the car off and the rear wipers no longer turn on when the car turns off. Like I said it most likely has something to do with the installation of the aftermarket radio but it may also be a bad ignition switch leaving the car in the ACC position. Either way, its okay for now.

I suspect that it's possible your ECU just needed to be reset and disconnecting the battery for a short time period does that, if it were your ignition switch I would think you would still have the same issues.

Haha its funny you say that, I was walking my dog right after I posted this and I realized the same thing. Definitely just needed the ECU reset

Did you resolve the 4Runner issue? I’m having the same identical problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yep, all I did was reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. I'm not one of the experts here so I'm sure there's another way to do that. Hope that helps you!:cheers:
