Rear Wiper arm problem solved

I have been going through tons of threads trying to understand how to fix my rear wiper arm that barely touches the glass. I tried to "shave the splines", adjust the bolt etc etc. and nothing worked.

Then the other day I was buying some wheels from a guy and he had this spring on his wiper arm. He also tried all of the tips and tricks on the forum and none of them worked and he had an extra so he gave it to me, problem solved! A clean swipe every single time and it still gets seated in the holder perfectly.

Some bad reviews on Amazon, glad I didn't listen because it works perfectly on that rear wiper.

I am thinking about tossing one on my passenger's side wiper as well since it doesn't touch nearly as well as driver's side. Shoot I may throw them on all of my wipers!

It puts on a ton of pressure though, installing it takes a bit of muscle. Not sure a bungee cord can put on that kind of pressure and for this price, do we need to jerry rig it?
 
I just installed this spring on both of my 2005 4Runners and the rear wiper works great now. Came to $18.49 with shipping, and took 10 minutes to install on both vehicles.

8 minutes was trying to figure out which way to orient the spring, I pulled up this thread on my phone and problem solved.
 
omg, my rear has been bugging me forever and could not figure how to get this fixed lol even bought a new blade lol will def be ordering one now! thanks for the post :tea:
 
Just wanted to add my thanks too - tired of seeing my rear wiper only touching the glass half the time. Worth trying as a cheap fix - going to pick one up this weekend.
 
Just a follow up for anyone wondering - bought a pair, put one on, and works great. Nice to have the wiper actually touch the glass all the time now.
 
I have no rear wiper arm.
Currently has nothing to attach to as the nub from the wiper motor is completely stripped.
Furthermore, I snapped a small drill bit in the hole I was trying to drill, so that I can tap and bolt a new arm in.

Without paying $100+ for a new motor, I was thinking I can epoxy an arm onto the nub, and use this spring to ghetto fix my rear wiper..

Someone tell me I'm stupid and talk me out of it. I rarely use the rear wiper, and have driven it for 3 years without it...

I won't call you stupid because it's good idea if you REALLY can't afford the new motor and REALLY need the rear wiper, BUT I wouldn't do it if I were you since as you stated you rarely ever use the rear wiper, the reason I wouldn't do it is it will be a real pain to get the epoxied wiper arm off if you ever decide you can afford or want to replace the motor!!
 
This silly $18 spring device is a must have for all 4th gen owners.

I was skeptical but with the high pollen levels here recently I was desperate for a solution as the rear wiper would just smear particles everywhere and make it difficult to see out the back window.

I replaced the wiper blade, installed the spring and it's a HUGE difference. Kicking myself for owning this 4R for so long and just getting around to doing this now.
 
This is a great find. I also have a problem with one of my front windshield wipers doing a crappy job. I thought it the was wiper blades, but nope. It barely touches the windshield for some reason.

Another option is if you have a friend that is a welder, you can remove the motor from the hatch and TIG weld a new threaded section on the tapered spline. I did this myself a few months ago as a project and to practice TIG and so far so good.
