Rear Wiper Blades

My local dealer (Michaels Toyota of Bellevue, WA) charges $6.99 just for the insert. Total rip-off!

To get the arm assembly off, you must first remove the cover that conceals the bolt at the base of the arm. To do this, I grab the cover on both sides near the base, pull out to release the tabs, then pull up.

Once you do this, you can see how to remove the rest of the assembly. If you're not careful, you could snap the assembly like I did the first time.

Thanks for the info. There are two main pieces to the rear wiper. The sweeping arm assembly and the wiper blade assembly with the rubber seating stop attached. I do not want to remove the arm assembly. I want to remove the complete wiper blade and replace it with the rubber booted Anco30-13 as posted by "chaz". Hopefully "chaz" will return with the info. From what I saw in the ANCO package maybe the rubber stop will not go on....

I was actually pleasantly surprised that the stealer only charged me a few bucks more than the insert would have been, nothing like the $24 one that someone quoted. Needless to say I replaced the whole thing. I found that it comes off like most other wipers.

I commute 175 miles each way Michigan to O'Hare, I've seen some freakish weather, and almost never use my rear wiper. So how big a deal is it to get the special booted winter blade over two minutes replacing the stock insert? I've not seen a big improvement with the booted blades, and at highway speeds they sometimes float off the windshield. That's why the stock ones are slightly wing shaped, some cars come with little wings on the wiper arms to keep them down.

The Toyota refills were rated the best a few years ago by one of the big car magazines, well worth the few cents more at the dealer. As cheap as refills are, you should replace them a couple times a year.

The OEM rubber refills/inserts are the only way to go!

Replaced mine today. Part was $2.81 plus tax...

Pull out the old blade, remove the metal strips, install the metal strips in the new blade, install blade.

What 3 minutes tops??

I didn't know you could get a dealer part for under $3!!!

Reading this string, it appears that some dealers carry the rubber refill and some don't. Some gouge on price and some don't. That said, I live in the snow/ice belt and I just think its best to replace the whole wiper blade (rubber and frame) rather than the rubber edge. With the abuse the wiper frame and rubber go through each winter, I figure better safe than sorry. Also whereas the refill install is 3 minutes, the blade replacement is literally 30 seconds. Different strokes for different folks!!

I do not want to replace just the rubber insert . I also want to replace the blade with the Winter ANCO full rubber boot 30-13. I use the winter blades for the windshield year round like you.

How did you remove the old blade assembly? I cant figure it out and neither can the people at a local auto parts store.

I guess Chicago isn't the snow - ice belt as you call it. I see no need to replace good parts, the wiper is worn not the arm, IMHO. I don't know what abuse your wiper gets, mine just goes back and forth...

Went to the dealer yesterday for this same thing. I was expecting to buy the entire assembly for $25+, but was pleasantly surprised when they handed me the blade and a bill for $3.10!

The rear wiper on our XC90 was $29 and OEM front wipers are $56!!!

So I left there very happy!

Yes, back and forth over ice and snow which is sometimes defrosted and sometimes not. Additional friction and additional load. Maybe you constantly clear your glass more than me? You would think you'd see a lot of rubber hanging off of rear wipers in Chicago traffic like I see in Milwaukee traffic...but then again maybe not...you may be too busy paying tolls!! LOL No harm...different strokes for different folks - I prefer the 30 second/no tools replacement of the wiper blade over the 3 (which for guys like me is probably 15) minute rubber insert replacement. Time is money!!

Does anyone have a picture with the Anco 48-08 adapter? I see pictures online, but cant see how it fits. Just like to have a visual.
