Dealers and people are always trying to cheat you.

I wenty to my dealer for an oil change because I had a coupon for my 4 runner. I also needed and inspection. My rig is a 2019 with 45K miles and is in great shape.

So the come back after the inspection and tell me I need new windshield wipers or they will fail my inspection. The wipers were fine - I told them they were just trying to make some dollars from me. So... my choice is, by the overpriced Toyota wipers or spend another couple of hours at the Mavis tire shop after I put new wiper blades on myself.

So I said ok.

On the way home, I cleaned my windows and on the drivers side window/wiper, the wipers left a huge un whipped streak at eye level.

When I got home I found out that the passenger side wiper had the Toyota logo on it, and my driver side was some sort of cheap wiper with no logo on it.

Livid - called the dealer and they refunded me the cost of the wipers.

Gutter cleaners just came for the fall gutter clean out and they only did half of the roof. They did not thin k I would climb onto the roof and look.

what's going on with people these days???

That’s incredibly frustrating, especially when you trust a business to do the job properly. Good thing you noticed the wiper issue and got your money back. It really pays to double-check the work these days.

Honestly, it feels like customer service and basic work ethics are getting worse everywhere. The most frustrating part is that you go to a business expecting professionals to do their job properly, only to find out they are trying to squeeze extra money out of you or cut corners when they think nobody is watching. The fact that you had to catch them yourself is ridiculous. And it’s not even just about the money, it’s about trust. Once a company pulls something like that, why would anyone want to return or recommend them to others?

It certainly is a Caveat emptor world we live in. While I would like to, i don't trust any professional to do the work without my supervision. For the love of money is the root of all evil...

reason why I do my basic oil change and most of everything on my cars....and also do home repairs most of time....learned from many bad experiences and just getting lied to and lost of $$$.....Its just business as usual of this world....customer service, good quality work, parts have gone downhill and prices have increased....the entitlement of business now is to charge as much as they can for minimum work....Right down to many business service work....just slap and go and hope customer doesn't come back... Very few business and service business have still held on to quality work....but they are rare..... welcome to the every man for himself world.......like they say...if you want to do it right....you got to do it yourself... even the NEW Toyota and Honda cars are almost junk trash quality at $$$...They too have lost their reliability bage reputation from old days to now trash reliability...

Same here. I do all of the fluid changes, brakes and just about anything else I possibly can with a vehicle on jack stands. The only things I won't touch are internal engine/transmission problems...and if I follow a good maintenance schedule, the chances of that are minimized. Otherwise, even my new purchases never see the dealership service department and they only see an independent shop once every 2 years for a state inspection.

It takes me hours to do what a shop could do in minutes but I know it's being done with OEM parts, torqued correctly and is not costing me a fortune.
