rear wiper: my spline doesn't look like your spline

My rear wiper does not make contact with the glass. Lots of threads on solutions, however my my spline doesn't look like your spline. Looks like the splines have worn off and a hack was added. Anyone know if this can work or do I need to get a new motor unit?


Also, what is the position of the wiper at rest? Is it Position A or Position B? Mine rests like Position A and in this position, the wiper's rubber insert is pushed into the holder. This normal?

Your pic isn't clear enough to tell for sure, but it looks like the nut that holds the arm on the motor post is missing. As for the position at rest, it should be like position A. They are showing position B only for making the proper adjustment of the arm position on the shaft before final tightening.

As for the blade not touching the rear window, that is usually caused by the pivot joint in the arm getting too rusty which keeps the tension spring from holding the arm down against the window. I was able to spray some Gibbs (similar to WD40) on pivot point and work it until the joint was free again. If yours is too far gone, you will need to replace the arm.

Be careful and good luck. My whole spline broke off when I tried to remove that nut. Need to replace the motor and at $300ish its not on the top of my priority list.

I had the same thing happen. Soak it good with some PB blaster or similar product for a day or two and ease it off.
If I recall correctly I used a Channellock to move it back and forth before it let loose. I cleaned it up good with a wire brush and applied a thin coat of white lithium grease spray to prevent future seizing.
I think some guys on here have used a pulling tool as well, like for ball joints.

I have a tool designed to pull battery wire clamps off the battery terminals. Basically a small puller, which worked well for pulling mine. I'm sure any small two jaw puller will work.
