What is the secret to getting then pushed back in to take off the 2nd cap? I’m having one hell of a time trying to get the 2nd cap off. Rented a ball joint press and because of the funny angle on the opposite side the thing won’t go back in straight. Half tempted to drill a big hole on one side of the cap and try to push the ujoint thru. Idk, went from thinking it was an hour job and here I am 3 hours later and all my alignment marks wore off and I have 1 cap off. Next step a grinder maybe?

I can vouch for smacking the yoke after installing the new bearing. Felt a litle grimy so i gave it a tap and sure enough felt like butter afterwards. This was my 3rd attempt at u-joints. Super easy DIY

Dude, you experienced the same thing [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION] and I did when we did this the first time. If you drive too far to get the first cap out, you can displace the cap you are driving against out the other side of the yoke. Now, it's a big pain in the ass to get the cup lined back up so you can push it out it's side. And, you experienced the same shortcoming of using the balljoint c-press because of the way the yokes are shaped. They have a taper to them and the c-press wants to slide off the yoke and it's difficult to press straight with it.
We resorted to using a 2 jaw puller and that worked MUCH MUCH better. So, this is the technique we are going to share in the video we made. Stay tuned!

I just did this job for the second time with [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION]. Now that I know some tricks of how to get this done, I would say it's fairly straight forward but I don't know if I'd call it EASY because there's definitely mistakes that can be made that make it harder to accomplish.

Did you post the video yet? I'm trying to tackle some of the cheaper jobs like this when I've got extra time, but I would rather spend extra time making sure I know what I'm doing, instead of leaving my truck on stands for days because I missed something.

On a note to this thread:
When I did press the other cap thru, accidently I kinda gave up and went in with the grinder. A vise and steady hand and actually made quick work of it. Not as scary as I thought It would of been but got it done. Pressing in was a price of cake. I ended up buying a cheap o press from harbor freight which wasn’t actually needed by the end but hey, now I have a press lol.

Replaced my rear u-joint yesterday. This thread was very handy during the process. Like the OP I had one cap on the u-joint that was not getting grease and that was the cause of a vibration that started recently.
I accidentally pushed one of the old caps in too far and after 20 mins of trying to get it to line up and come back out of the yolk I ended up just using my grinder w a cut off blade. That was the only issue I ran into while working on it. It's riding perfect now. I'm about to hit 250k miles.

Drive shaft vibration
I did my u joints a while back and got the vibrations, i didn't feel like taking it apart again so i balanced it pretty well with a hose clamp, opposite the balancing weights. Figured i must have put the yoke on 180 out... do you suggest i turn the yoke again or make sure the joint is well greased first?
