Reata's Build Thread

Reata, what size Maggiolina is that? Can you still fully open your tailgate?

It's the Maggiolina Airland in small. Tailgate opens fully inclusive of the Gobi Ladder. The newer ones have a pneumatic deployment system. Mine is about 5 years old and still has the crank system, but I love it just the same.
:frog:

That maggiolina is so sick!!!

I'm looking for an autohome that goes from the tip end of the sunroof to the end of the rack. The Columbus maybe, I don't know.

When you say "tip end of the sunroof" what are you really saying? From the forward edge of the sunroof, or from the rear edge of the sunroof? If it is the rear edge, you have to remain in the fetal position whenever you were up there. Mine fits about 3 inches behind the top front bar of the Gobi Stealth to the rear of the Gobi. It is really a perfect fit.

Yea i mean the rear edge. Cause I plan on mounting a set of rotopax on the gobi insert so I can put a RTT on the rest of the rack. I may just have to settle for the ARB touring tent.

That thing is sick. I've actually been eyeing the carbon fiber one. I'm thinking it'll be a Christmas present to me from me. :frog:

Carbon fiber is cool, but doubles the price for only about 10 pounds of savings. I am actually getting better mileage after installing the tent. Crazy, but I think the fact that the roof is now a little more aerodynamic improves the way it cuts through the air. Wish I had a wind tunnel....1Engineer, do you have one? I could swing by and run some tests....

Thanks. Yep, parking decks suck for this reason alone. Great in a hail storm though. I told the wife when we build our Antman Garage, it MUST have 8 foot doors.

Strange rattling noises...

Well, for several days following my outstanding FJ Summit#6 experience I have noticed some very distinct rattling noises from beneath my faithful steed.

After finally separating my lazy derrière from the sofa, covering up in my "Buzz-Off" clothing, and coating my exposed areas with a solid layer of DEET (we are experiencing a level of epidemic proportions of West Nile Virus here), I began to investigate.

I went to my trusted tool box (not even close to Antman quality) and fetched my rubber mallet. I "gently" began whacking on some areas, bumper, sliders etc, each time replicating the sounds I hear while under way. After lowering my slight frame (NOT) down under the vehicle, I continued my whacking. All of a sudden from the corner of my eye, I spotted some movement. Looking in the direction of the movement seen with keen peripheral vision, I gave it one more whack! Much to my chagrin I recognized the beautiful color or Colorado granite in one of the vent slots of my skids! Pleased with the simplicity of this "Repair", I retreated to my back yard lair for a celebratory adult beverage.

NOTE: Check for rocks in your skids!

That is all for tonight!

Well today marks the first mod I have made in some time. We will play the guessing game for a few minutes to see if any of you can think of this fantastic and absolutely invaluable addition to Reata.....it was not very expensive, is weatherproof, provides a mechanical solution to a problem experienced by many campers, and was patented at the turn of the century.

I know this is silly, but think of the fun we will have whilst you all guess. Tomorrow I will post photos of the new mod and will also award one of the magical items to the first post/response I read that answers the question. There will only be one winner and it is up to the sole judgement of yours truly to determine the winner.

Let the guessing begin!!
