Recall

Toyota is recalling about 320,000 trucks and SUVs because the roof-mounted air bags can inflate without a crash.

The recall covers the 2005 and 2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, the 2003 through 2006 Land Cruiser, and the 2004 through 2006 4-Runner. Also included are the 2003 through 2006 Lexus LX 470 and the 2004 through 2006 GX 470.

The company says improper programming in the air bag control computer caused the problem, which could increase the risk of driver and passenger injuries.

Dealers will replace the computer at no cost to owners. Owners will be notified by letter about when they can bring their trucks in for repairs.

My was purchased from a non toyota dealership, which they bought from an auction. Do I still qualify do you think

Doesn't matter where you bought your car. If your vehicle is up for a recall by the manufacturer you can take it to any Toyota dealer and have the service done free.

Do we have to wait for notification, or just schedule the recall maintenance?

There's no recall right now, it's in "Interim" phase, meaning that they are aware of the issue, have filed the report, and are working on a fix.

When the fix is ready for release it will go from G1C to G0C and then notifications for repair will be mailed. Currently all that is being sent out is a notice to owners that a recall is in the works.

id like to know, because i own a 2003 4th gen. Why is the 2003 not included but the 2004+ is? Typo?

I imagine it's only for those units that have side curtain airbags. Not all 4th Gens came with them, I believe it started as an option in '04 (mine does not have them.)

interesting. I cant honestly say if i have them or not. I know in the A pillar i have an air bag. Because it scared the hell out of me when i popped the pillar off to run some wiring.

My 03 Limited DOES have them. I had the headliner dropped previously, and noticed them. They run from front to rear all along the top.

Well only thing I can think of is that the SRS Modules/Components affected by this premature deployment have been traced to only '04~'06 models with CSA (Curtain Side Airbags) so your '03 should be fine. We will probably find out more as they get closer to a "fix."
