Over haloween weekend I visited some friends up at UCSB. Whenever I'm up there I always like to do the West Camino Cielo trail that follows the mountains along the coast, the views are incredible. Its a fairly easy trail with only one tricky spot that any stock 4x4 can get through with good tire placement.
To get there take 101 to 154 east, near the top of the hill take a left at West Camino Cielo. (take the left fork near the start of WCC) Continue up the hill (paved for about 5 miles) until you reach the Winchester Gun Club. Soon after the pavement stops and the fun begins. The trail goes for about 14 miles as a dirt road unil you reach the observatory where the paved road starts up again. You will reach a 4 way junction, take a left down the hill back to 101. Really worth taking if youre in the area.
I took these pictures on an outing today (1/11) at Carveacre Trail south-east of San Diego. There were 3 4runers (2 2nd Gens, 1 3rd Gen) and two Taco's. Pretty fun run, short and rutted like crazy. 3/4 of the way through the trail one of the taco's had their front left coilover break and pop loose. It busted the CV joint (bearings were ok) and loosened the breakline. After some repairs, the taco limped the rest of the way on its bumpstop, running on a smaller spare tire, since the 32 rubbed the fender before the A-arm hit the bumpstop. We missed you out there DubCab
Hey guys and gals sorry for not showing up yesterday. Something had come up that day that had to be settled right then and there otherwise I would lose these tickets to the Laker vs. Cavs game tonight. ANyhow, sorry to hear about he coilover busting out. What brand is it? Fabtech? Got me thinking bout my setup whether or not its at the right setting for wheelin. Btw, nice Huuka..
Today a few of us from the San Diego yotatech/4runner forums did the Hanglider hill trail out by Blossom Valley, Ca. Its a pretty hard trail with some deep ruts but its super short. The two other guys had rear lockers made it up ok, I had to cheat and use my winch. Afterwords a couple of us went to the San Diego Off-Road Expo. Heres the pics..
