Hey guys. Just thought if share what myself and another member, [MENTION=81971]Rudy97[/MENTION], have been working on for the past while.
[MENTION=46329]blcktpgsr[/MENTION] for the inspiration and a few design ideas.
First off, we started this build, but it mainly turned into a rudy97 build because he's an impatient bastard. Lol. He's really not. He's a great guy, and I completely understand having good audio on a 10 hour drive.
This started before Christmas, when I picked up two 1st Gen roll bars.
Then progressed to me putting in one of said roll bars.
Then came the Q&A for blcktpgsr.
Questions about the box, questions about the drawers.
Started building the box during my Christmas leave. Started out using 3/4" MDF, and making a single box able to hold to Rockford Fosgate R2D2 10" subs. The recommended volume for said subs is .69 cubic feet each. I quickly learned that my box I had designed would not work. So, Rudy and myself picked up some 1/2" MDF, and went from there. Here are the two boxes on top of the other box I built.
We realized that our dimensions weren't quite what Rockford recommended, so we had to fix the box a little to get it to work right. The first idea we had, we just kinda did it. Not the best way. Ended up with Swiss cheese on both sides of the box, which wouldn't have worked out at all.
So, I took it upon myself to fix said problem. The before and after pic:
Once that was fixed, I made the front and back portions of the box, and put it all together.
Once the box was done, covered it in black carpet for Rudy.
Then, I started working on a drawer system for my rig. I like having the space in the back of the Runner, so I figured out a way to make the entire drawer system removable.
We found an individual on CL that was selling some 3/4" square tube, so we both bought 2 sticks each all for 60 bucks. It's already primed, so that's why it's orange.
What I did was take the roll bar and just tacked my supports on to the bar so I could get a feel for what I was working with.
While in Home Depot one day, I found some 1/8" angle that fits inside that 3/4" tube. My plan is to cut, sleeve, and weld a 3" piece of that tube into the roll bar. Then, have the angle that I bought at Home Depot slide in and out of the main support for the drawers. I already have this part done, just don't have pics ATM.
Well, the other roll bar was just sitting in the back of Rudy's truck, and he wanted music, so I just gave him the bar I was working on. Kinda gives me a clean slate to work with. Here's his bar, that we put into the back of the truck tonight.
He wanted his system welded to the bar, so I took care of that last night and today. We put the bar and box into the back of his rig, so he's happy.
We need to finish the drawer system for his bar, then figure out how we're going to paint it. That thing was a b!tch getting in there.
The box sits so snug against the roof that there's no need to bolt the thing down, it WON'T move. But, were still going to bolt it down. Just ran out of time tonight.
Hope ya like what we've done so far. I'm probably going to be adding my bar to my build thread. Like I said, I've got the main supports all done, just need to sleeve it and figure out the drawer system.
