I have a GoPro and a Pilot Electronics "DashCam" which also works well at night. Since I already had a GoPro and lots of accessories I didnt want to spend a lot on a second dash cam. The Pilot brand was at Walmart and there is currently an identical model on QVC or HSN. The idea of hiding DashCam behind the rear view mirror is clever. I just moved mine.

No one will notice that on your stuck to your windshield, LOL. I'm sure the go pro works very well to impead your vision out the windshield. i wonder how many thieves will say "is that a go pro? i always wanted a go pro." smash
is everyone really that scared to run wiring in their vehicles?
boy will you guys be scared of what i do everyday to brand new cars off the lot....wait, i do them on the show room floor!!

The GoPro doesnt live in the 4Runner. It gets used in many other places. It was originally purchased for use on the mountain bike and trips on the ocean in FL. It is no more difficult to remove from the mount than your keys from the ignition. If you can remove a light bulb, you can remove the one screw that holds it in place. Only the windshield mount stays in the car.

It's a coincidence that I saw this thread because I've been thinking about getting cameras for my Runner ever since I found out people at the university I'll be attending think keying cars is a game. Will definitely be looking into this and maybe even a full 360 camera if that's possible.

Just my opinion, but I doubt a dash cam type of device will help in your case. It means you need to have a camera on all of the time. There are cams that turn on when they sense motion, but by the time they start capturing video the subject is out of range. But most of all, anyone thinking of vandalizing your vehicle probably wouldn't think twice to smash and grab your cool looking dash cam. Might be better to park in a posted area with external video surveillance.

After doing lots of research, I also elected to get the A118C just like the one PRZM has. Stealthy, good IQ, wide angle, and won't overheat since it doesn't have an internal battery (uses capacitor instead). I did not get the GPS version. Found it on e-Bay from a company near L.A. Estimated arrival in 3 to 5 days.

America just isn't the place it used to be, although that's a much more widescale and depressing matter. After a very close encounter with another 4Runner (soccer mom/mall prowler variety), I've decided I need a dash cam to prove events in the event I'm not able to react in time.
Lots of research has lead me to 2 different options
Panorama X2 ($310 Amazon)
Koonlung K1S ($220 Amazon) ($240 w/GPS )
The former has much better reviews (except for low profile), although runs about $80 more, for good reason from the tech specs.
Now both of these record both front and rear. Thankfully I did a little thinking and discovered a rear mounted dashcam would be troublesome attempting to mount on our liftgate with retractable window. Several days of trying to come up with a solution yielded frustration, although a Google search was much more useful. Thankfully this guy already found a simple solution. His choice in camera wasn't a bad one, but has quality issues compared with

Go figure the more and more you read into things and examine other options, the more indecision is to be found. I'm also considering skipping the rear cam and just doing the Mini 805/806 Series much cheaper at $120.

The Mini 806's get good reviews. Night vision appears to be decent.
I've ran a B40/A118 for a year and contrary to some opinions, it is still working just fine. Discreet and does "ok".
I'd certainly love to drop some nice coin on a more highly regarded unit, but there's a few other fires to put out before that happens, lol..

Have you ever felt the need/want for a rear cam? I hear the arguments about seeing only half the picture, not watching your six, etc. But is it really worth double or more the price?
Yes... I probably feel that "want" every day,but I'm slightly OCD lol... I guess it's a matter of if you have the cash to burn. I'm dying to upgrade my front cam, so it's a matter of time I suppose and tech like this is getting more affordable.
lol.. I also kinda wish I had the cash to have a unit that included side cams, haha.. That's probably where more stuff happens anyway, and seeing video with them in use, I'm intrigued. I guess it depends where you want to stop.
If I get a better cam that doesn't have the rear feature available (due to money constraints) I'll likely mount the current one out back if it's still functional.
