Recommendation for V8 Oil Filter Relocation

Hello,

I have a 2007 V8 4Runner and I perform my own basic maintenance on it, including oil and filter changes among others. I plan on keeping it, well, forever. So that means lots of oil changes!

I wanted to see if anyone can recommend an oil filter relocation kit? I'm only looking to relocate the filter. I have searched around this forum as well as other forums but haven't anything concrete.

If there is a preferred brand and model?

Why do you want to relocate it? It's pretty easy to access as is.

I just wanted to see if there was a better (more convenient, cleaner) option than dropping the front skid plate.

I mean, it's not as convenient as the V6; but it's located in a pretty easy to get to spot. With my aftermarket skids I just slot a paper under the filter and drain it out no problem. With the factory gravel shields, it's just 4 12mm bolts and you can get to it easily.\

I would say it's probably more trouble and cost than it's worth to relocate the filter if it's just for oil changes. I don't know many people who have relocated their oil filters on these vehicles to be honest; they don't really get in the way and space isn't an issue, so its not commonly done.

I looked into this as well because of the skid plate hassle after my first oil change. My conclusion was that there are minimal to zero benefit and increases areas of failure - hose fittings, ensuring proper flow to the engine, etc.

I don't drive a ton of miles so I only change my oil once per year. If you are driving a ton of miles, I would look at extended drain oils that can go up to 1 year - Mobil 1 (10k), Mobil 1 EP (15k), Amsoil SS (25k). I would also pair it with an extended interval filter such as Mobil 1, Fram Ultra(XG series), and Amsoil 15k series.

Would check with a Used Oil Analysis if you are really pushing 15k/20k/25k per year to make sure you are ok. Our engines are fairly easy on oil and you should be ok in the 10-15k mile per year. Beyond that it will really depend on your driving style and conditions. Bobistheoilguy.com is also another great resource.
