Recommendations for 4th Gen lift

I have a 2003 4WD 4Runner I'd like to install a lift on. Going to be buying new this time, instead of used parts like I did on the Tacoma. Current vehicle has stock XREAS shocks and system in place with 65K mile.

Not looking to break the bank, so coilovers are out of the question.

Considering Bilstein 5100 set at 2.5 front and lost on what to do with rear?

What works the best for budget minded builds? Maybe $500-1,000 total.

You could do superflex coils from toytec in the rear with 5100's. then in the front along with the 5100's, and im assuming stock coils? you might want to consider upper control arms like the light racings.

If you are keeping the XREAS, I would suggest the Daystar 2.5/1.5. I just installed it on my 05' T4R and it was the best $130 mod I have ever done. If you are wanting to pull out the XREAS, I would do a Bilstein 5100 set at 0" with a set of OME springs designated for whatever weight you want to carry up front (V8, Bumper, fat chicks, etc) I have 5100/OME all the way around on my 3rd gen and couldn't be happier.

I bought the 5100's from Down South Motorsports for $330 and then I bought a Daystar rear 1.5" coil spacer for $35 from 4wheel parts. All the lift I'm currently running until I put my body lift on.

What is the front lift at? 2.5 on 5100s? Stock coils?

Yes, stock coils front and rear with the fronts at the highest setting. My X-REAS was totally toasted so I gained 3 inches total on the front. I plan on new coils down the road, but probably not til next summer.

I've got 5100's with tacoma springs set at 2.5, and super flex in the back. Sits nice and rides good. And I've got a little over 500 bucks in it total.

Best budget minded build for suspension would be 2nd gen tacoma bilsteins with a Daystar budget boost front and 1.5 rear but that's just my opinion. You can do this, have a nice ride, a nice height and ditch your entire xreas for about $200 bucks if you do the labor yourself.

Here is my 03 with the tacoma suspension, 1/2" toytec spacer in the front and Daystar 1.5 in the rear.

After digging around the 4Runner, which i should have done more closely :bash:, i don't think I have the XREAS system.

From the pics of what XREAS shocks look like, there is a clear line going into the top. Mine definitely doesn't have that. Not sure what i was thinking :sorry:

i see you have a trd tacoma setup there. you could always go with 5100's and those springs

threads to really educate yourself on what is out there and what will work on your Runner while keeping in your budget. Here's something that you want to keep in mind: When you are lifting your Runner, when you get up to the 3" of lift area, you really need to consider longer upper control arms (which is going to run you an additional $400.00) to avoid alignment problems and prevent premature suspension/bushing wear issues. That being said, if you want to do away with XREAS, and replace your coils, you can probably get away with OME coils/5100's up front and Superflex/5100's in the rear for under $800.00 (assuming that you are doing the install yourself. But again, you really need to consider the UCA's. Hopefully, I will see you at the Houston meet and greet on Friday and we can talk about it.

Definitely the tacoma shocks. I would just toss a Daystar or similar spacer on those if you aren't real concerned with being a major off road rig.

After talking with my brother, who i bought the Runner from, he definitely swapped the front struts from his old 2011 Tacoma 4x4 Offroad. He suggested adding rear Tacoma shocks and FJ springs in the rear.
