Recommended Depth?

A couple weeks ago my wife, Dad, and I drove Medano Pass, CO. Near the sand dunes we came accross several water crossings. One of which was 3' deep, 40' wide. A "Heep" Grand Cherokee and lifted Suburban followed. It played out like this:

-t4r did several trips-having fun!!!
-the "Heep"-hydrolock sitting dead in the middle of the stream (pulled out with t4r)
-Suburban-stuck in the middle of the stream (pulled out with t4r)

I love my truck!

I have had water to the top of the cladding on the doors.

toyota spec is 700mm for water fording. given where the intake sits you can probably go deeper if you use the swell of the water. i think i posted the specs here before. obviously with a lift and bigger tires you will do better.

Great - Where did you find that spec?

For all of us who don't use metric 700mm is 27.55 inches.

Please see this thread, scroll down to the bottom. US car websites are normally pretty bad for tech specs, so try the equavalent on other countries website. The LandCruiser PRado is pretty much identical to the 4Runner mechanically, although they chose to use the Lexus body style. Off road info however is the same in terms of clearance, water fording, etc.

Thanks! So 27" would put it about mid door on a stock 4th gen 4r?

the stock tires are 30.5 inches. So it would be 3 inches below the top of the tires.

So I think (looking at the picture of my soon to be purchased Sport model) that would put it about at the horizontal bumper guard on the door.

Here are some info on the Prado (aka GX470/4runner):

Incline = 42 degrees

Sideway = 42 degrees

Water Depth = 700 mm = 27.5 inches
