recommended transmission fluid??

1985 5 speed, getting ready to do a fluid change on the tranny. Any suggestions on which brand and what type is best?? Also any filter suggestions??

just the w90 gear oil is fine. or you can go with Royal Purple synthetic gear oil.

I run , RedLine MT-90 in the trans and transfer case its a full synthetic .. the w56 manual transmission does not have a filter

That transmission wants a GL4 gear oil, which is getting harder to find. I use Redline MT90. The W56 doesn't always play nicely with GL5 gear oils, even if they're supposed to be GL4 compatible.

You can run a GL5, and lots of guys do without reporting any trouble, but I found that my shifting was notchy and stubborn. The MT90 works much better for me.

I run royal purple. It is about the same price as gold, but my tranny shifts like butter. :bigok:
