Recording / Transferring High Def video to harddrive or DVD

Hey guys. I'm curious if anyone else records anything off of their High Def DVRs to either a computer harddrive, add-on drive of some kind, or dvd recorder. I'm asking because I recently ordered an on-demand movie, and we wound up not having a chance to watch it. So I was thinking if I had it recorded/downloaded to a harddrive or something similar, I could just watch it when I was able, instead of with-in the two days of ordering it as they require. Obviously I'll delete it when I'm done watching (promise!), but all I've been able to do is transfer Standard Def video.

Either I need a different video card, better software, or what?

Please help me out. How do I do this?:shrug:

It would probably be better if you googled exactly what you are trying to do (VODRiP) or go to a forum on Ripping media instead of a truck forum off topic.Like this video forum here... DVD Ripping

What media format did you download and how big of file? Who is the provider for the Video On Demand? It is encrypted or encoded so it can't be copied and would have to be decrypted. It's not that easy and takes a long time and some researching of how to do it.

I use the free DVDFab software Free DVD Decrypter,Blu-ray Decrypter from DVDFab. Get Free DVDFab products, and try out DVDFab for free. for decrypting and DVD shrink for burning for years but you have to be a little tech savvy to figure out how to do it. I havn't tried it on video on-demand(VOD) movies as I don't buy them.

What are you trying to watch it on? If it's a computer and it doesn't have a HD supported video card or chip and your monitor doesn't support 1920 x 1200 resolution then you won't get true HD on it. A DVD(only 480P) is not HD as a so to burn it you would need a blu-ray burner to burn it or as I do ,have an HDMI out to watch it in my HD on my Panny plasma from my hard drive. I use the KM player or VLC as the media player.

Thanks for the info! I mostly want to transfer the High Def movies from the DVR to my computer hard drive, but I'm more than willing to purchase other devices to allow the transfer to such devices which would allow playback later.
I'm not dead-set on putting it on DVD (or blue-ray). That would only be to take to another room to watch on another tv. I have a blue-ray player in my main tv watching area, however, I don't yet have one on my computer. I think my laptop might actually have one as well.
As long as I can get it to my hard drive, I can either transfer it again to a portable hard drive, a thumb drive, etc to take to different rooms to watch.
My current video card on my computer has inputs which allow standard def (composite video, S-video) and I can record that to my hard drive (I've used this many times when transferring old VHS tapes and video from my video camera). One problem I've had is I can't find a video card that has a High def input. May not be looking in the right place, but it seems like it would be too easy.
Anyway, I didn't really know where to start other than asking - I appreciate the info! Thanks!
