Recovering Center Armrest

After a 950 mile drive in one day in which I must not have moved my right arm very much I've been left with an unsightly divot in my center armrest. Searching around I see that this isn't uncommon and the replacement is around $250.

What I haven't seen mentioned is someone recovering it themselves. I took a quick peak at the underside last night and removed the 4 visible screws at the back but the soft vinyl portion is still firmly attached. I'm afraid to pull too hard and possibly damage it. Any ideas on how it's held together?

I tend to leave my elbow in the same place and have noticed a divot too. Kind of annoying as an arm rest should be robustly designed...but after some time the divot actually cured itself, which surprised me. It was like the world's slowest memory foam recovery.

Mine almost feels like the foam has been pushed off to the side. Maybe I'll take a hair dryer to it later to see if I can persuade it to rise.

The same thing happened to mine on my drive from Texas to New York. It fixed itself on its own.
