Recovery Question

Hey guys,

I am in the hunt for a recovery shackle. I found this on Amazon...

Smittybilt 29312B Receiver Hitch D-Ring with 3/4-Inch Shackle for 2-Inch Receivers : Amazon.com : Automotive

Would this fit in the stock 4th gen hitch receiver? Anybody bought one of these? Good or bad?

Should fit fine. I have the hook made by them and it fits a bit loose, just put a piece of bike inner tube in with it and its silent

If this isn't a good option for the 4th Gen I'm definitely open to any suggestions.

never used it so I can't comment on how good it is. followed your link and read some of the poor reviews, based on those alone I would look for something else.

I have it and it works perfect and fits fine, I dont know where those negative reviews came from of not fitting properly? Works for my 4th gen v6, so cheers

I have that exact one as well and it fits my 2007 V6 stock hitch. Mine's definitely not too big for the reciever. If anything you could say it was a bit small. But no smaller than my hitch. I think it's fine.

I bought the exact same one from amazon. The one I received had poor casting and I had to use a rubber mallet to whack it into the factory tow hitch receiver to get the holes to line up for the pin to insert. YMMV

I've read others on here with the same defective casting have had to grind down the top/bottom seams and apply a coat of rust proof paint.

I bought this one about a year ago and returned it due to fitment issues. Way to small...there is a ton of play in the hitch.

I don't have that one but I picked one up at pepboys made by Reese. I haven't used it yet but it fit nicely. the Shackle\ D-ring that comes with it says 6.5 tons. was priced about the same too.

Tractor Supply Company stores also stock lots of options for these if you have a store nearby. I have one that slides into my hitch and I love it.

if you are going to have something on the truck all the time i would go with a hook. but if its just going to be on when in use i would go with a shackle.

I have this one. I leave it on all the time and have no issues with it. I had to get pulled off a steep hill I bottomed out on and this thing did the job.
