Ok, been about a month this time.
I took my truck for a little 4x4 adventure, and i got it stuck, took of a couple pieces of trim and got some nice scratches (see attached pictures)
But its all good, (except still haven't dealt with passenger side rear mudflap that came off, easy fix). It was a good trip though because it helped me realize what i want my truck to be, (I was told to build my truck with an end goal in mind) and until now i didn't really know what my end goal was. I would like my truck to be a self sufficient "adventure" vehicle, so doesn't need to be extremely off road capable but able to handle a lot of stuff, along with have good cargo management, sleeping accommodations, water management, compressed air on board, ect.
So last week I started to build a rear cargo system and it is mostly finished. I still am contemplating how i would like to do the drawers, and i also need to sort out carpeting, or another alternative to carpeting it (what i really want to try and find is some 1/4" or 1/8" thick rubber in rolls like carpet, Any ideas?). Almost forgot, i also need to do platform in the front (rear seat area) for a sleeping configuration.
After I have completed this I am going to sort out a custom roof rack system, I have it planned in my head, just need to bring it together on paper, or my vehicle. My Dad bought a rooftop tent for his Land Cruiser and i am welcome to use it anytime so thats pretty exciting as well and i am designing the rack with consideration of the tent.
Also if you have any questions about my rear cargo system or want more pictures of specific things, just ask, its no problem. (pictures are not really in order)

alright. as far as the carpet situation, ive got a few suggestions. i install flooring for a living and my dad has done so for twenty years so i happen to know a few things. the rubber would work well but only for the top. and only if glued down, stapling it wont work at all. i actually have a piece in my cargo area right now but it is just being held down by the trim pieces and the tie downs. works great but only to protect my carpet.
it also isnt going to wrap at all so i would recommend going with carpet. if you check out youtube you can fins some tutorials about how to upholster it on there to get a great finished look. its not very complicated once youve seen it, as long as you take your time.
and carpet for a box like this can be had for cheap too. go to a local flooring/interior sales store and ask for remnants. you wont need much for the cargo box. especially ask about porch or wall carpet remnants. we install a carpet that is the exact same stuff they wrap speaker boxes in on porches and walls and such. i actually have a few pieces of it for some of my own cargo ideas. if you have any quetions or whatever shoot me a pm.

Thanks for the info! And you have a point about how rubber wont wrap, i think ill carpet and i might get a rubber mat for on top to protect the carpet. then i get the durability of the rubber and ease of installment of the carpet. btw where would i buy rubber like that, flooring stores as well?

Yeah. That's kinda the only place to get the rubber at. The carpet you can get at other places, Walmart has smaller pieces, and a few other places would have it advertised as stereo or car replacement carpet, but a flooring store remnant is gonna be your best shot
