Hi rigtec, new member here. I've ordered my paint for the console repaint but wanted to know what grit sandpaper you used to prep?

Thanks for this post. It motivated me to open mine up and see what it looked like. I’ve always wanted to look inside but wasn’t sure how. Anyway, once I opened it, it was pretty messy inside so I spent about 2 hours cleaning everything up.
However, I have a question for you all. I noticed some parts are rusted. May have been cause by spills from the previous owner. How bad do you think this rust is and should I replace it?
Also I noticed a small tear in my 4WD boot. What’s the easiest way to fix this. Can you just buy the boot or do you have to replace the whole top center consol? My guess is the latter since the boot looks like it’s staple into it underneath.

I wouldn't be concerned. I have similar and like you said, it could be from spills from previous owners, or even just some condensation.
I look a little scotch brite to mine and clean up some surface rust when I had mine apart. If it really bothered you, you could spray a little fluid film or clear coat paint on it after cleaning it.
