Regretting your supercharger?

Been kicking around the idea of a supercharger. What are your regrets if any of adding your supercharger? Honesty is appreciated as this is a big investment. Besides just losing mileage, are they high maintenance? And does it hurt to run them in sometimes extreme cold? This is my daily driver and I do live in MN. Thanks in advance. Post up your mileage before and after your sc as well

I am at about 105k now and have been supercharged since purchased new at 9 miles. At 15k the supercharger was replaces for the nose rattling. At 36k it was replaced again for engine pinging, and nose rattling/leaking. About 69k on this one and I have no complaints.

The PO decided he wanted 6 supra injectors instead of the URD 7th, and that is my only complaint. I would kill for the 7th!

the only regret i have is having to use premium at the pump with the way gas prices have been lately. I'm thinking about adding methanol injection soon just so i can use regular 87 octane with the pulley i have. I really haven't lost any gas mileage having it on. If any, it may have stayed the same since i now have the extra power to move the larger tires and added armor on the truck.

It was about 105k when the charger was installed and now i'm at 120kish. The colder weather really doesn't make it any harder to start or run especially where you live from your sig.

My only regret was waiting for my warranty to expire, I was stupid and should have gotten the 7th injector kit and 2.2 pulley sooner. Ooh and my other regret is I can't drive and stock 3rd gen again after getting the charger and 7th injector dialed in. Ooh and go urd, gadget is the man, he spent about 1-2 hours on the phone with me to help me dial in my kit and even did a jumper kit so it was all plug and play and did the revision for next to nothing.
Factory installed supercharger since purchase I think my 02 had 400 miles when it was blown.
It's at 98k now and only ever replaced 2 belts and the nose con service. The urd super grip pulley does break down a belt faster. Urd 7th injector on for 10k and yes big difference

Regrets? Well not really regrets, but if you are close to sea level(or less than 5000 feet) plan on springing for a 7th Injector. You might need to learn the programming software and change your fuel map as well. Premium, yep you will need it, so that costs more. Mileage-wise really depends on the weight of your right foot. Same thing happens in my turbo'd miata; if I could keep my foot out of the boost I'd get better mileage.:jump:

PS- Super unleaded gas may be more expensive but the sound of the supercharger and acceleration puts a fat smile on my face.
PSS-mileage on truckwise I wouldn't let that bother you, most have had a lot of miles on original motor before adding the S/C. If all other systems are good you should be fine. Gadget's site has a lot of good info.

My mileage was another concern I had as I have 108k miles on mine already. I didn't know if it was a good idea to supercharge with over a 100k?

I had a 2000 sport with a supercharger and i had 230k on it. Chris360 above has 205k on his motor and another friend of mine has a tacoma with a supercharger thats been on it since around a 100k and he now has over 200k and that is with no fuel mods or anything. 108k is nothing, i say get one! Im gonna be looking for one for my 96 with 196k on it soon cause i miss all that boost and that supercharger whine.

Has anyone tuned for E85? Just the other day it was $0.80/gal less.
With no intercooler, the roots hot boost loves the additional fuel volume required. Not to mention the octane rating and it's inherent benefits.

I don't have a supercharged 4runner, but if I did, that's the route I'd go...

Make sure your tranny (auto) is in good shape with new fluid and a tranny cooler. My friend's younger brother went through two A340 on his Tacoma in three years after getting his SC put on. If I didn't have two boats that served as my fiscal black hole, I'd buy one.

those that have them can run 91 octane be ok. I am living at 4500 MSL

just thought I would ask cause 91 seems to be the preimium around here.

at least I have not see it and will start looking now.

I did some research. many higher elevation areas and alot of california 91 octane is premium. Around here it is 87, 89, and 93.

"Octane requirements go down as altitude goes up. The premium fuel octane in Denver is a full two points less than premium in Phoenix. The rule of thumb is each 1000ft gain in altitude results in an engine requiring .5 less octane points."

" premium" fuel at sea level will be around 93 and at 5000 feet it will be 91 and at 7000 feet it will be 90."

MtnDew what's up guy, hows flying going, well i hope. Engine mileage should be good, many with alot more miles have s/c. If everything is tight and sealed you're good to go. I'm not sure of the 80K on the s/c it may last longer if the nose cone has been done thats a bonus. If its rebuilt completely it's as good as new. There are many on ebay selling for $1500-1800 with less than 20K miles on them. My engine has 167K with 40K on the 1st Gen both are doing fine. I'd shop around for something with alittle less miles, unless you buy it right, rebuild it for $650 and you got a brand new s/c. Something to think about.

Regards, 8sm
