Reluctor wheel for 2002

My 2002 wouldn't start the other day, and took it into the shop and the said it threw a code saying the reluctor wheel is the problem. I do most of my own work on my cars, and hadn't heard of this particular piece, though I now understand it's part of the timing control. I couldn't get a good description that I could clearly understand from the shop. However, I don't see a reluctor wheel mentioned in the FSM. Am I missing it somewhere? Does anyone have (preferably) a picture of it and can tell me exactly where it is located, or something that could help me understand it better? Why isn't it in the FSM?

Which reluctor ring are they claiming there is an issue with? There are 2 reluctor rings related to engine timing. One on the crankshaft and one on a camshaft.

EDIT: It's most likely a sensor issue not a problem with the reluctor ring itself.

They're going to replace the sensor as well. I think the reluctor ring on the crankshaft is the one they're talking about.

I have never seen one of those rings go bad in any toyota engine.

I guess if the clogs on the wheel would be busted off. Sensors can go.

Plug obd 2 reader into your connector and see if you can read rpm when trying to start the engine.

If it's reading rpm.. You have a sensor working.

Sounds like a "hail mary" approach to me
