Waiting for the right deal to come up on a 2nd gen. I've run into a lot of ads with runners that have remanufactured engines. Due to my automotive ignorance I'm not really sure what to make of a remanufactured motor. What is it exactly? Are motors rebuilt with non-yota internal engine parts? What about reliability?

It depends on who did the rebuild but most of the remanufactured engines dont use oem internals to keep costs down.

Hard to say. Remanufactured generally means a motor that was bought as core and rebuilt on an assembly line, where rebuilt generally means a local mechanic rebuilt that engine for that truck. Both can run the gamut from impeccable jobs to get-it-done-quick-and-cheap. It's always a good idea to research a used vehicles maintenance history - when you come across a rebuilt or remann'd motor, ask for the paperwork. Find out who did it, research that company or shop for reviews, find out if there's a warranty, that kinda stuff.
