Remilled rotors

So I'm like 98% sure that my front rotors are warped fairly badly. I scored a set of used rotors from a buddy who is SAS'ing his rig right now and was wondering your guys opinions about getting his rotors remilled for my rig. And any and all past experiences with remilled rotors specifically from O'reillys since I'm on a tight budget. Thanks in advance.

Check with the manufacturer--they typically have charts with the minimum thickness for turning rotors, and if below that, they must be replaced. That's assuming you have a caliper that you can measure them with, of course.

All rotors are marked with the minimum allowable thickness for that particular rotor.

One thing to consider is that turned rotors are more likely to warp again, since there is less material to absorb and dissipate the heat, then a new rotor would have.

while that technically is true, its not really a problem too often. the biggest cause of a pulsation is uneven friction material.

to the OP, take the rotors in to be resurfaced, the shop SHOULD mic them before hand, if they don't, just ask.
if they are thick enough, have them turned.
and make sure to use new pads with them.

What I was going to say. I understand that it's pretty rare for the actual rotor to warp. What you get is hot sticky brake pads that leave high spots on the rotor. I've had good luck rebedding the pads and rotors when it happens, get them good and hot and smear that friction material around some.

Ah you and all your camping fun-ness. I'm just going to take the wheels off and see how my rotors are looking and if I need to go get either mine or Ty's rotors turned. Oh the benefits of my job.

Yes, I'm well aware of that.

The OP specifically said they were warped. I haven't seen his rotors, so I'm just assuming his assessment is correct. If that is the case, then it's not just uneven deposits of brake pad friction material on the rotor.

The fact remains that turning rotors (removing material) reduces their ability to absorb and dissipate heat compared to when the rotor was new. Which was my point.

he said HIS rotors are warped.
but, he was asking about using some other rotors.

Monday i'm working again (as usual) but I would maybe have some time Wed or after if I cant get it done before then.

Any good tips for busting it out quick or brake pad recomendations that are decent at a resonable price?
