Remote Door Lock

My daughter has a 1999 Camry and both remotes quit working when I changed the batteries. (I checked, the batteries are properly installed) The dealer says the remotes may need to be reprogrammed at a cost of $37 and the user cannot do it. Anyone with experience on this that can offer advice?

I don't know about Toyota remotes but on my old Honda CR-V I was able to program the heyless myself. All that was required was turning the ignition key and pressing the remote buttons 4 or 5 times in a specified sequence provided in the instructions. But maybe your dealer is telling you the truth and there's more to it for the Camry to justify the $37 :dunno:

here ya go. use this attached tsb to identify which system you have installed...

use this tsb if you have the oem factory installed keyless entry

and use this one if you have the "dealer or port installed option (PIO)"

Thanks for the help. The remote is similar to figure 13 and has the name "SECUREKEY+" on the key/remote. In the car is a push button LED. I have attempted to find this device through a Google search with no success. The very brief manual indicates an association with Gulf States Toyota. Are you familiar with this device?

unfortunately, no. I just went and looked up your vehicle in toyota's techinfo (which I am subscribing to this month) and pulled the related TSBs for the keyless entry.

You now know as much as I do. Maybe it's worth the $37 from the dealer if those TSBs didn't help... Could be worse. :
