Wow. Both at the same time. Well that pretty much rules out battery.
I would still check, just to clear it. After that, it means either a. your car's ecu somehow forgot your fobs code
2. the cars radio receiver is out.
Find some reprogram instructions and try to re-program to the car.

That I have no idea. Once you start talking about that stuff, it is simpler to take it to toyota to diagnose. You cant simply replace or troubleshoot it; as for security reasons, it is intentionally somewhat difficult to tamper with.

Ouch. Yea, wow, that really sucks. If the dealership there cannot help, I suggest calling a US dealership and asking honest opinions. I am assuming that the key fob radio detector is connected to the door lock actuators and the car alarm. Sounds like you have a disconnect somewhere, but honestly, who knows.
Are German Toyota so much different that their technicians can't wager a guess?

Remote not working properly
I have a Lexus and a 4 RUNNER. Sometimes at home the remote, for the 4 Runner and the smart key for the car do not work properly. As soon as I leave the neighborhood it works fine. I have had this problem in the past with the car and a couple of years ago I had an Avalon and sometimes the same problem. Evidently there is something operating in my area part time that blocks the frequency of these units. They all operate in the 315 mhz range. The dealer ship kept my car for a week when I had the Avalon and they tested it and every day the Service advisor started the car and it worked fine. I know he did this because I know this particular advisor and he is a straight arrow. This possibly could be your problem also.

SO, this got me thinking and this sounds really plausible.
Every industrialized country divides radio frequency. Some similar, others not. The divide the frequency band up among various uses, whether TV signal or cell phone, even small remote devices; all devices capable of transmitting a signal powerful enough to interfere with another signal (most things) must be approved by various agencies.
The back of your key fob has 1 numbers. 1. FCC and 2. Canadian Approval. America and Canada are so close, that they utilize similar frequency divides.
I looked it up and Europe is totally different.
Short end of the story is, I have no idea how Europe does it and it could be that your neighbors microwave or computer monitor just so happens to transmit radio interference on the same frequency as your NON-EU key fob.

I had a friend who had this issue win an Acura. Keyless entry always refused to work in her office parking garage. Worked fine everywhere else but the garage, so we figured there was something blocking the signal. Eventually she discovered others in the garage had the same issue, however when I was there it didn't. So it is very possible some frequencies are getting blocked by something.
Doesn't matter where I am...house, store or work it still won't work.

It appears the the key fob is operated through the body ECU and I assume the radio receiver is built in or close by.
