Remote Locking Issue

It seems like more and more things are starting to go wrong with my 4R lately. When I try to use the remote locking feature on the car, it won't work. Both of my remotes have brand new batteries...but still no luck. A couple odd things I have noticed with it though:

1. When I hit the unlock button just once, the lights blink twice but the system beeps four times, signaling that i did an all door unlock. This is how I lock my car now, because if a door isn't opened after one minute after the unlock being pressed, it automatically locks the doors.

2. The interior lock button does not work, but the unlock portion does. This is the same deal on both the driver and passenger side.

Any idea what could be causing this?

I dont know. Our 2000 4R SR5 sometimes locks all doors when its just sitting and no one is in or aorund the car, and no one touched the remotes. It happens in our garage and once when my wife was pumping gas and she got locked out with purse, phone and keys all inside.

bonson - most GM cars does the same thing. even with the car on, so remember to roll down your window a little.

kellyJ - contact might be dirty or going out. try cleaning it with contact cleaner. as for remote have you tried to reprogram it?

if you have a large dealer near you I would talk with the service manager to determine if this is a known issue. they may have issued a fix on it....if not....I would talk with a local toyota shop to see if they have any experience with it....

Luckily there is a dealer about five minutes away so that is an easy option. Its not where I bought the car, but my dad has bought a Tacoma and a Tundra from there though. I hope its nothing too serious, as it was doing it intermittently up until yesterday, and now it does it all the time.

I know this sounds dumb but how would I reprogram my remote?

Is there a way to turn the "chirp" on and off? Mine worked before the engine swap but not it won't. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
