Remote or alternative to the block oil cooler?

I've started to develop a nice leak at the oil cooler mounted to the engine block. Has anyone blocked this off and removed it or created a remote version? There's a new washer and it was tightened down to spec 11K miles ago when I rebuilt the engine. All mating surfaces where clean so I don't know why it decided to leak now but its beginning to get messy in that area.
