Remote security system options?

I've got a new '05 4Runner with the factory installed security system. Love it so far (especially compared to my 1993, with 195K miles!)....but I have one thing I'd love to change. I'm a runner...so when I run, I don't like to haul keys/remotes along with me. Does anyone know of options to work the Toyota security system other than lugging the remote around?

What I have done in the past, and might resort to here, is get a regular old flat key made that will lock the doors, and wear it in my shoe key holder. I don't like to do this with the remote, as it might get wet during a run.

the ONLY thing i appreciate about my wife's Ford is the numeric keypad on the door!!!!

Thanks for your input!

I have a plastic "credit card" key that the dealership cut for me when I got the truck. It opens the door but of course doesn't start the truck because of the transponder system. If you expect to use it often, I'd look at getting a cheapo key to carry arround. Even if you lose it, the person who finds it won't be able to drive your truck away.

Just remember that the credit card key is good for only one or two unlocks before it's worn out.

I never knew that there is an available credit card key. Heck, i didnt even notice i didnt get one this time (got one with the RX300 purchase in 00 and in my 03 GX purchase also) . :gaptooth:

The credit card key they're referring to is different from your Lexus's. If your Lexus key is like the Mazda Millenia credit card key, I believe your Lexus key is metal which can be removed from the plastic holder/frame. It has a plastic holder/frame surround to make it credit card size. The Millenia key is like the Lexus key where the 'teeth' are inside the grooves--laser cut key.

The key they're referring to is a complete plastic key, except there's a thin strip of metal inside the key section to reinforce the key part from breaking. The key is the same thing as ones from AAA. Picture here.

I was hoping someone had a genius add-on keypad for the security system, or some other way to arm the system without having to carry the remote around...

The search continues...
