I hope this post is useful and solves any potential issues you've found with 4th gen aftermarket remote starts and the auto headlamps.
I recently installed the Compustar CS800-S, great system by the way.
So here's what i found, every wiring diagram identifies the door trigger as purple/yellow at the BECU. This is great if you're installing an alarm and need to catch all of the entry points with one wire. Here's the problem, you need only the driver door wire to activate the 30 second headlight timer.
Here's the issue. When you turn off the vehicle, and open the driver door, the 4runner will now keep the headlights on for 30 seconds if you leave them in auto mode. If you turn off the ignition and don't get out, the lights stay on until you open the driver door. And, if you get out of the passenger door, headlights stay on. So bottom line, the BECM needs to see the driver door opening to actually turn on the timer to turn off the headlights.
If you're like me and want to show your friends how the remote start works, and it's at night, the vehicle will shut off but the headlights will only turn off once your battery dies. The remote start must "talk" to the driver door switch once the remote start is turned off remotely or times out.
The compustar uses the orange negative pulse wire to do this. You should program it's function in the 2-07 table. It'll make sense once you read it.
To find the driver door only wire, I just pulled the door pin at the lower B pillar and found that it was red/black. I found that same wire in the kick panel, tied it to the orange wire, now everything is perfect!
I've read many threads where people blamed the installer for this issue. And again, if you use the remote start like a normal person and not turn it on and off remotely or let it time out, you may not know you even have an issue. But i'm guessing if you ever had a dead battery for no reason, this would be a good place to start. And for those that respond with "just turn your auto headlamps off" ,really?
